About Me

My family and my home are my passion!

I’m seated on a backless bench at my kitchen table facing a large shelf full of books, curriculum and manipulatives. There’s a vase of flowers centered on the tablecloth near a magnifying glass, a dead grasshopper and a large pinecone. Meat is in the crockpot, beginning its slow roast. Although the dishes have already been washed and dried once today, a sinkful more awaits.

My girls have raced in from the swing set to take their dolls for a ride in a stroller. The boys are involved in an intense game of Stratego using commander and captain tones as they work to destroy the others army. My husband is preparing for winter, chopping the wood he cut yesterday. Books and toys, drawing boards and markers are scattered on the floor in the living room behind me. Clothes are drying on the line and the chickens are pecking in the yard.

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve looked forward to the days of being a wife and mommy. Those days are here… and it’s a wonderful, exhausting, beautiful, trying and rewarding place to be! My desire is to make an important, far-reaching and sacred influence right where I am, at home with my family.

I’ve been happily married to my best friend for 12 years. We have 5 precious children (ages 10, 8, 7, 5, 4) that challenge, encourage and teach me daily. Becoming a wife and mother has taught me more about myself and my faults than anything else I have ever done. It has also challenged me to be more productive, selfless, efficient, responsible and flexible than I knew I could become.

Welcome to my blog – Reflections of a Homemaker. My plan is to write weekly about things I have discovered, practiced and implemented in our home (though not perfected!) in hopes that these will be found useful, encouraging or enlightening to you as well.

My main focus will be in three areas:

home and family {things that affect the way we live together},

healthy living {recipes for tasty food (especially for those with allergies), natural cleaning and self-care}, &

matters of the heart {that part of you that plays into every other area of life}.

Let’s walk this journey of homemaking together. “Whatever else we slight, let it never be our home-making. If we do nothing else well in this world, let us at least build well within our own doors.” J.R.Miller

  1. I just read “Time Is of the Essence” by Irene Foster in one of my favorite mommy books this morning as I am ending my quiet time. I wanted to post this poem on my blog, did a quick google search, and found you! Your “about me”/life sounds much like mine! I look forward to looking around your blog!
