Chocolate Sauce

Here is my favorite chocolate sauce recipe. It’s easy to make and good for you. Can’t often say THAT about chocolate syrup now can you? It is also naturally “free” of all the common allergens. Gluten, dairy, soy, corn, shellfish, nut, egg… You get the picture!

In a blender, mix the following. Then drizzle it over your favorite dessert and enjoy!

1/3 cup cocoa powder

1/4 cup maple syrup

2-3 Tablespoons of water

2 teaspoons of melted coconut oil

(Refrigerate any leftovers. It will need to be reheated when you want to use it again – if you’d like it to be syrupy. The coconut oil hardens in cold temperatures, so it becomes more like a super-delicious fudge topping!)

A few tips for the novice: COCONUT OIL-Buy only food-grade coconut oil and avoid any that has been hydrogenated.  Coconut oil has strong antifungal and antimicrobial properties.  It is white & semi-solid in cool weather and a creamy-colored oil in hot weather. It can be used in cookie recipes and other baked goods. We use it in place of butter (for those with a dairy allergy). It can also be used for sautéing. MAPLE SYRUP-“Natural sweeteners” are excellent to use to enhance the flavor of your food. The nutrients have not been removed (unlike other sugar substitutes). Enjoy it with good conscious!
